Move-in Day

Last Wednesday afternoon, April 3, we hit the road with a packed and loaded Tahoe hauling a packed and loaded U-haul.  I had a little vision of the Beverly Hillbillies  floating through my head as we headed down to Ocracoke Island.  

After a night at the Orville and Wilbur Wright Days Inn Motel in Kitty Hawk, we got up early and drove the rest of the way to Ocracoke and arrived at the house around 9 am Thursday morning.  Fortunately we were able to unload everything before the Manteo Furniture truck arrived early afternoon to deliver the rest of the new stuff for the house.  God also blessed us by holding off on the rain until everything was inside the house! 

So now I have inside photos and no one has to suffer through my feeble attempts at artsy photography anymore!!!!!!

From the kitchen looking toward the staircase. Notice the frig. tucked under the stairs and the washer/dryer tucked in next to it!



The kitchen has a great layout.  The island is bar height and provides great serving and work space.

Second bedroom. Note the built-ins that our builder, Tom, constructed. They provide wonderful storage space! The window seat lifts up for more storage of linens and things.  This room sleeps 3.

And another of the third bedroom. Again, the built-ins offer great storage!

 All the bedrooms have a queen size bed.



A cozy nook at the top of the stairs. There is a skylight which bathes that space in light!

The sun peeked through the clouds a little bit on Friday afternoon and we got to take a break and enjoy the beauty of it all!







A gaggle?, flock?, covey?, committee? of pelicans kept us company all weekend!

Yes, it feels like home!

 Next month when we return to Ocracoke, we’ll be hanging new blinds on all the windows, more artwork and mirrors and we’ll finish the screened porch!

    I am in love with your house and Ocracoke is so gorgeous! We visited there about 8 years ago and I would love to go back some day!

    You should go back to Ocracoke and stay in our house! You’d love it! You can book it through Blue Heron Vacations on Ocracoke. We’ve had a ball fixing it up!

Bee-atrice and Ruth Buzzy

Last Friday, I took a trip to a honeybee farm about 3 hours from home to pick up my 2 boxes of honeybees that I had ordered a couple of months ago.  This was not without a heavy load of anxiety and trepidation.  With Mr. Dodson gone, I knew I was completely on my own.  I could not fathom the experience of traveling 3 hours with 30,000 honeybees in my car.  My fear level was pretty high, I must admit.  My daughter, The Teacher, said it was like a Fear Factor episode!  (But I didn’t win a million dollars).  Thank goodness it was a beautiful, sunny, “sapphire throne” kind of day and I focused on prayer and scripture all the way to the farm and back.  It’s amazing (although it shouldn’t be) how prayer and scripture meditation bring peace (that surpasses all understanding).  So a focus primarily on Philippians 4:13 and Philippians 4:6-7 brought me (through the Holy Spirit) the peace I needed to get through that journey. Boats, SmacNally’s, Music, and Growing

  Another 2 weeks on Ocracoke Island in May-June and I am surely spoiled! We timed this logistically so that our first week covered Memorial Day weekend when our children would only have to sacrifice 4 vacation days instead of 5, and then covered the next week which covered the full weekend of the Ocrafolk Festival, an annual event that we were able to attend for the first time ever! We also hauled Big Fun (the brother-in-law’s boat) down to use for the 2 weeks there. Having a boat at 10 Cuttin Sage really is Big Fun! The men spent a huge portion of the week fishing and catching! I made sure I took a walk every morning to avoid blood clots (yes, I’m still on blood thinners, bummer, see last post). We probably spent an inordinate amount of time at SmacNally’s restaurant on the harbor. It’s just too good, and probably a health hazard, but hopefully the fried stuff is outweighed by the fresh catch in it! Fried oysters, shrimp, mahi, hush puppies, french fries........

Peace

We were on the Island (The Doer and I) for 2 weeks at the end of September to beginning of October 2020.    We hauled my brother-in-law’s boat (named Big Fun) down for the 2 weeks and had the kids there the first week and then some good friends of many years there for the second week. There’s no need for details that have already been described in the blog numerous times before: wonderful food, sunsets, fishing, reading, relaxing, laughing, etc. I did a whole lot of sitting on porches (see past posts), reading, and watching scenery. I tried to get a few walks in at least the first week, but mostly sitting. In fact, I did so much sitting and relaxing that by Wednesday after we returned home, I found myself in the Emergency Room at our local hospital with blood clots so large that the doctors couldn’t believed I was still alive and walking around!
