Waiting.........

Today is Maundy Thursday. In case you haven’t heard of it, it is the day of Christ’s last supper with his disciples and the night He was betrayed. It represents a day of solemn reflection on the horrific sacrifice He made to take the punishment for our sins. There is a feeling of patient anticipation as we wait four days for the Good News of Easter Sunday when all hopes and dreams are fulfilled in His resurrection.

I’ve learned lately that God often wants us to wait for things.  Sometimes having to wait on God makes our longing for things ever deeper. Sometimes the waiting is agonizing.  Sometimes the waiting brings tears and frustration. But always, if we allow it, waiting makes our faith ever so much stronger; and the bringing about of the thing dearly longed for is ever so much sweeter.

As these interminably long days, when it seems like winter will never end, slowly turn into spring, we have proof that God always comes through for us no matter what.  His answers are not always what we wait for and his gifts are not always what we have in mind, but always, always, always what He gives us is just exactly what we needed in the first place.

I’ve gotten off track in my blog. This is supposed to be about a beach house. But it’s really about my life, and there has been a lot of waiting in this project. (There are other things in my life I’m waiting for but that’s for another time and blog!)

It started about 4 years ago when we first had an inkling that maybe some day we would own a little piece of Ocracoke Island.  Negotiating with the bank required great patience and prayer as we left it all in God’s hands. Investigating, comparing, choosing, shopping, and buying in the renovation process has also been a practice in perseverance. My hard-working husband has labored unceasingly in his workshop fixing, painting, and building for many hours when he gets home from work each night to save money here and there.  We are now on the verge of all things coming to fruition. Next week: interior photos!!!!!!!! (Hopefully)

Bee-atrice and Ruth Buzzy

Last Friday, I took a trip to a honeybee farm about 3 hours from home to pick up my 2 boxes of honeybees that I had ordered a couple of months ago.  This was not without a heavy load of anxiety and trepidation.  With Mr. Dodson gone, I knew I was completely on my own.  I could not fathom the experience of traveling 3 hours with 30,000 honeybees in my car.  My fear level was pretty high, I must admit.  My daughter, The Teacher, said it was like a Fear Factor episode!  (But I didn’t win a million dollars).  Thank goodness it was a beautiful, sunny, “sapphire throne” kind of day and I focused on prayer and scripture all the way to the farm and back.  It’s amazing (although it shouldn’t be) how prayer and scripture meditation bring peace (that surpasses all understanding).  So a focus primarily on Philippians 4:13 and Philippians 4:6-7 brought me (through the Holy Spirit) the peace I needed to get through that journey. I got home that evenin...

Reflection

First day of 2016 and I’m sitting in my new Golden Retriever face t-shirt and sock monkey socks watching the Rose Parade. My t-shirt and socks were a gift from the Hospitality Manager.  The floats in the Rose Parade are still wondrous to me since childhood when I first began watching:  gigantic flower sculptures on wheels with special people riding on them!!! The balloon parade on Thanksgiving is lots of fun, but these floats are truly magical.  I guess this parade is a true joy for anyone who loves gardening and beekeeping (and fairy tales and fantasy lands). Anticipation of the new year brings eagerness, excitement, just a little trepidation, and wonder at the gifts of God’s grace. It’s going to be a bit busy this year, what with The Office reno, first time beekeeping, and a WEDDING!  I wanted to get into raising chickens, but my (egg) basket is a little full I think.  Maybe next year. I have 3 weeks booked for us at 10 Cuttin Sage; March, June and Se...

Shades of Blue

My favorite color is blue.       Blue Ridge Mountain blue.               Afternoon sky blue.               Caribbean water blue.               Hydrangea blue.               Periwinkle and Salvia blue.               Verdigris copper blue.               Carbon and hydrogen fire blue. These aren’t Sherwin-Williams colors either. These are things I just thought of when I was thinking of blue. There is a myriad of blue in nature and I love every shade of blue, turquoise, teal, mint, blue/green, etc. Blue is supposedly a calming color so it would make sense that I would love a calming color because I need to be calm. It is in my soul. I cannot live an adrenaline-driven life. Now let me digress to a new topic. We wen...
